This new natural history museum was developed in partnership with the American Museum of Natural History as a venue for their changing exhibitions. The design was inspired by the prairie burns, a vital part of the unique regional grassland ecosystem. The building was intended to spark the imagination and curiosity in visitors, particularly children, while also allowing for flexible events and exhibitions. Due to the nature of the changing exhibits, strict requirements had to be met with regard to security, environmental controls, curatorial spaces, and the exhibit halls themselves. Complementing the flexible galleries are a children’s discovery center and a collection of exhibits on local natural history and sciences.

The museum achieved LEED silver certification.
