Discovery Park of America, the legacy of benefactor Robert Kirkland, was conceived as an instrument to bring the outside world to an under-served region in rural Tennessee. The futuristic design houses a diverse collection of exhibits ranging from history, science, to arts, and is the centerpiece of the 50-acre park. Among the unique architectural features is a 200-foot-high observation tower, offering views of the surrounding region and encourages visitors to “look beyond.” Through carefully selected materials and detailing, the project was able to meet a very tight budget while offering grand and dramatic spaces for the engaging exhibits contained within.
