A new 89,000-square-foot, multi-level expansion of the New England Aquarium to more than double its current size. Located on the eastern, seaward end of the wharf, it will house major new permanent exhibits, as well as expanded dining and retail areas. The new exhibits will focus on New England coastal waters, integrating live animal exhibits with interactive and media technologies to create exciting, immersive experiences.
The expanded facility features two major signature exhibits: a 550,000-gallon, two-level high Gulf of Maine tank and an Eastern Rocky Shore exhibit displaying three different species of seals. The new East Wing will integrate seamlessly with the existing Aquarium and offer additional exhibits on the Gulf Stream, the deep, estuaries, salt marshes, and watershed ecosystems.
